RapidCalc

Jun 26, 2019

Description

The feature that separates RapidCalc from other insulin calculator apps is its consideration for those following a basal-bolus regimen with diabetes. It calculates your bolus insulin dose and provides your correct values based on your blood glucose levels, correction factors, and carbohydrate ratios. Aptly described as “pumping without a pump,” it provides the benefits of an insulin pump and offers similar levels of control over your insulin intake.

Overview

This insulin dose calculator app, RapidCalc has a versatile approach to calculating bolus insulin dose. It has onboard tracking of insulin that automatically supplies correct values when recommending a dose based on different influences including, but not limited to, glucose levels and carbohydrate ratios. The main display screen includes features not typical of other diabetes apps such as planned exercise, alcohol intake, and more. It offers a history of carb intake and blood glucose at multiple points in the day to compare with suggestions. A screen is dedicated to basal dose entry, where thoughts and feedback can be applied. The statistics compare a variety of extensive readings and warnings. The colorful and informative daily blood glucose profile shows average readings and your measurements.

“Entering your glucose and carb values couldn’t be any easier (even for the most technologically challenged) with a simple, unique slide-and-tap control feature.”

Main Display Screen

For RapidCalc, the main display differs progressively from other insulin dose calculators. One of its features is a bar indicator for your measured blood glucose and planned carbohydrate intake. A blood glucose (BG) / extra card check off box tells you whether you’ve done your part and completed these tasks. In addition to those blunt but necessary dashboard questions, the main display screen requests input for your planned exercise so it can apply to your readings, food consumption, and medication intake.

Basal Dose

While primary insulin doses are the main concern in dealing with diabetic health, RapidCalc takes it a step further to devote an entire display screen to ‘basal dose’ recording with reminders. This allows the app to record background insulin doses with up to three preset doses, and reminders for each.

History

The ‘history’ feature is a detailed account of your carb intake, blood glucose, and more, with an easily readable way to scan the numbers you’re looking for. It’s separated into days with a chart display, backup, and expert option available for use.

Statistics

The ‘statistics’ display is where your readings and health metrics meet reality. This isn’t a crude comparison to how your progress is coming against the national average of people you don’t even know. All you need to be worried about is how it’s coming along in your daily struggles and trends over time, relevant to blood glucose, rapid acting insulin (RAC), basal insulin, and carbohydrate intake.
