Noom: App Review

Description

If you’re looking for a challenge to change the way you think, feel, and act about your diabetic health, ‘Noom’ is just the app for you. Noom provides coaching for goal setting, tracking health metrics, and uses psychology to “trick” your body into performing healthier activities. Featured in the New York Times, Women’s Health, Shape, Forbes, and ABC, those who use Noom lose an average of 18 pounds in 16 weeks.

Overview

‘Noom’ is the interactive app that uses information from over 250 articles, personalized coaching and feedback, and ‘trick’ psychology to track and develop health habits. Its structured course, cutting-edge technology, support group, and weight graphs all culminate in a free scientifically supported, nuanced app.

Structured Course

A great way to improve is through organized learning. Noom is no exception to this school of thought, implementing a ‘structured course’ to assist you in gradually mastering your health habits with diabetes. The structured course screen will tell you how many more calories you have to left in your budget, suggest how many more steps you need to reach your activity goals, and compare the results with those from previous days.

Cutting-Edge Technology

The wonderful platform of Noom for logging meals couldn’t be any easier.

“Just use the swipe of a finger to increase or decrease amounts of the foods you’ve consumed to accurately reflect portions.”

The portions you swipe are stored into Noom’s database, shared with your support coach to provide insight into your progress, and shared back with you.

Support Group

You aren’t the only one who has to modify and monitor multiple parts of your health while living with diabetes, so why not share your experiences? In addition to your assigned personal coach, Noom allows you to select individuals and place them in your ‘support group’ to share your successes with and seek advice when you need some motivation.

Weight Graphs

Remember when we told you the app shared your progress back with you? For most of us, visual learning is key if we want something to remain with us. Noom makes use of this commonality by displaying your progress in a simple graph. The graph is connected by your days that serve as points, shows if you’re on an uphill or downhill slope, and displays how much you have left before you reach your goal.
